Is your hair frizzy or poofy or just generally unruly? It's probably because you have curly hair! Don't know how to take care of it? That's okay! Curly hair can be difficult to manage and with there being so many products to choose from, it can be hard to pick the right one.

Curly hair tends to be dry, and brushing through it not only causes your hair to frizz, but can also cause breakage. The most important thing when maintaining curls is to make sure your hair has plenty of moisture and don’t brush your curls after they dry. Here are a couple of tips to guide your curl maintenance:

1) Purchase a wide toothed comb. A wide toothed comb will keep your curls from being stretched too far out of shape. This will reduce damage and help eliminate excess frizz.

2) Use cleansers designed for curly hair. Having the right cleansing routine is especially important for curly hair. A cleansing conditioning creme or a shampoo & conditioner that have been formulated for curls are going to help aid in manageability. Sometimes the answer is to simply stop shampooing so often. This is where a cleansing conditioning creme comes in handy.

3) Use a curl creme for styling. A curl creme is less drying than a gel or a mousse, and in turn reduces frizz!

4) Comb you hair ONLY when it is wet and/or there is conditioner in it. This will keep curls tangle free and help reduce frizz.

Based on your hair type and the look you're going for, you may need a few extras like a gel, and/or a leave in conditioner. There are styling products for everyone and every taste!  Your stylist can assist you in choosing the right product for you, as well as the right size comb or tools for your hair.

Now, say you don't want to deal with your curls. Consider a keratin smoothing treatment. There are demi permanent, non damaging smoothing treatments that can help you manage your hair. If you decide you want to wear your hair curly after receiving one, no problem.  The main benefit to a smoothing treatment is that the frizz is tamed and the curls are left manageable. If you want to be rid of your curls all together, you have the option of a keratin straightening treatment. This option will smooth and tame frizz, along with the added benefit of straight hair! This is a permanent option and must grow off or be touched up regularly.

Good luck with your curls! We are always happy to answer any questions, or assist in any way with all of your hair care needs!
